""The Scientist" is the second single from English alternative rock band Coldplay's second album, "A Rush of Blood to the Head". The song was written collaboratively by all the band members for the album. It is built around a piano ballad, with its lyrics telling the story about a man's desire to love and an apology.

When asked about the deeper meaning behind "The Scientist", Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin said: "That's just about girls. It's weird that whatever else is on your mind, whether it's the downfall of global economics or terrible environmental troubles, the thing that always gets you most is when you fancy someone."

American Idol winner Kris Allen hits the stage tonight for Billboard’s New Year’s Eve Live! on Fox, joining Sean Kingston and his American Idol alumnus Allison Iraheta.

Kris speaks about Idol, Vegas, New Years Eve, the new album and more.

Don Chareunsy: Have you been to Las Vegas before?

Kris Allen: I’ve never been to Las Vegas before, man. What a time to come, right? New Year’s Eve!

DC: Will you get a chance to see or do anything aside from perform during your first visit?

KA: I’m really excited about seeing Love. I’ve never seen a Cirque du Soleil show before.

DC: Congratulations on your first album and hit single “Live Like We’re Dying.” What has been the highlight since winning American Idol back in May?

KA: Thanks, man. Thanks a lot. The tour after American Idol was really cool, going to some 50 cities with the other singers. It was a total blast to be on the bus together. We had a lot of fun.

DC: And the best city?

KA: My hometown. They had a very nice welcoming for me in my hometown.

DC: What was your favorite song to perform on the show?

KA: Probably “Ain’t No Sunshine.” I had a good time arranging the song, and it was really fun to perform.

DC: I read in your bio that you were a fan of Garth Brooks growing up listening to your dad’s records. You should check out his show at the Wynn. Who are your favorite artists today?

KA: Man, don’t tell me that, but I’m coming back to Las Vegas. I’ll get to see him. I like a lot of current artists. Switchfoot. The Fray. Maroon 5. I like John Mayer. I’m going to see Maroon 5 on New Year’s Eve.

DC: If there’s one thing you could add to your must-see list in Las Vegas, what would it be?

KA: To be honest, the Garth Brooks show. I saw an ad in the airport and said that I have to see that. He’s awesome.

DC: Are you excited about performing in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve? And tonight, too?

KA: Yeah, man, the show tonight at B.B. King’s Blues Club was booked a week ago. And then live TV. I’ve performed on live TV, but this is New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas!

DC: Your first big gig of the New Year on live TV. No pressure.

KA: Yeah, man, thanks, no pressure at all!

DC: What is your New Year’s resolution?

KA: Hmmm … focus more on music. I’m not really a New Year’s resolution kind of guy.

Kris will be at B.B. King’s Blues Club in The Mirage tonight at midnight. Admission is $30, and doors open at 11 p.m.

Kris Allen to Reunite With Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert in NYC

Kris Allen will be hitting New York City's stage with his fellow "American Idol" alum, Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert. The revelation was made as Ryan Seacrest's "Ryan, Rock My Town" contest unveiled the Big Apple as the city with the most demand for the reunion concert.

NYC came up first, beating Allen's hometown Little Rock. The city that never sleeps took the lead of the online voting in mid-November with over 7,000 demands. The details on when and where the concert will be held are yet to be disclosed, but are promised to be announced soon by Ryan Seacrest.

This free gig will be the first reunion concert for Kris Allen, Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta and post 2009 Idol Summer Tour, which was wrapped on September 15 at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH. All three singers have all come out with their own debut album. Adam released "For Your Entertainment" on November 23, Allison debuted "Just Like You" on December 1, and Kris put out "Kris Allen" on November 17.

The judge, who announced her exit from the show in September, will be replaced by chat show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Kris, 24, said: "Paula is the one we get to know the best - she is a sweetheart, and I think the show will definitely miss her."

He went on: "People tuned in to watch what Paula was going to do, but she was just a nice person to have on there.

"Ellen's going to be, I don't know of one person that doesn't like Ellen."

Finalist Allison Iraheta added: "We're all going to miss her. I'm pretty happy that we got the chance to work with her."

The duo, who will be performing in Las Vegas for Billboard's New Year's Eve Live, are excited to see what new judge Ellen will contribute to the show. We'll see how that goes. I really want to see what she has to bring to the table," Allison said.

Kris also talked about the appeal of American Idol, which started in 2002.

"A person can come from nothing to a lot of fame, and that's the beauty of it. American Idol takes people who are a friend of their's, or has the same job or something like that, and makes them into rock stars, country stars or pop stars," he added.

Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta Illustrate Personal Styles In Elle

Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert all certainly have very distinct senses of style. So when the trio of "American Idol" stars teamed up for an Elle magazine photo shoot, they each got to express their individual sense of fashion. And, yes, that means that Lambert was wearing eyeliner and spiky platforms.

Lambert appears in the spread all dolled up in a glam suit posing with a microphone. "Accessories were the big thing for Adam," Elle creative director (and "The City" regular) Joe Zee says in his A to Zee column in the December issue.


"He's got a classic uniform of nonconformity," Zee continued about Lambert's look. "But I wanted the finishing touches to make his look a look. Think dangerous: chainmail scarf, link-chain gloves, spiked boots."

Just to illustrate the contrast of the singers' styles, Zee dressed Allen in Lambert-style wings and platforms — a look the "Idol" winner clearly can't pull off. But in the real spread, Allen embraces his "soulful quality" in a tie, vest and skinny black pants, holding an acoustic guitar. "He's like a young Chris Isaak who can sing in a stadium and make every person feel like it's a one-on-one performance," Zee wrote.

As for the only lady in the group, Zee wanted to keep Iraheta's personal aesthetic alive and make sure her rocker spirit was captured in the photos, dressing her in a figure-hugging one-sleeve dress and leopard-print ankle boots. "I'm very inspired by girl rockers," Zee explained, "especially a young Courtney Love and Grace Slick, and mixed kick-ass sexy with the toughness of her attitude and the music."

Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta Album Titles Revealed!

The Idoloonies have done it again! Just a week after Kris Allen fans uncovered his album cover art on the Barnes & Noble Web site, a group of die-hard Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta fans found album titles for each of their forthcoming releases posted on Amazon.com.

A rep for 19 Entertainment confirmed to MTV News that Adam Lambert's major label debut is called For Your Entertainment and Allison Iraheta's release is named Just Like You.

Both album names appear to play into each artist's "Idol" persona — Lambert, the ultimate showman and Iraheta, the irresistibly relatable teenage girl. No word yet as to whether their albums will feature songs with those titles.

Iraheta's first single, "Friday I'll Be Over U," leaked online last week and is hitting radio soon. Meanwhile, Lambert told MTV News he was waiting to finish recording before he selected his first single, which should happen sometime this week. In addition, a song he recorded for the movie "2012," called "Time for Miracles," leaked this past weekend, but it is not an album single.

Recently, several Lambert song titles have been confirmed. Producer Rob Cavallo name-checked "Suburban Decay," "Music Again" and "Winners" in an interview with Yahoo! Music, while the current issue of Entertainment Weekly also cites "What Do You Want From Me" (a leftover from Pink's "Funhouse" album, co-written by Max Martin and Pink) and "Loaded Smile," by Adam and Linda Perry. (Rolling Stone reported on a Kara DioGuardi/ Lambert collaboration, "Strut," weeks ago.)

Michael Slezak at EW.com confirmed two Iraheta song titles, separate from her Max Martin-penned single. Fans can expect the Kevin Rudolf-produced "Beat Me Up" and the Iraheta/David Hodges collaboration "You Don't Know Me," which Allison cited as her one of her favorites.

Lambert's For Your Entertainment will drop November 23 and Iraheta's Just Like You will land December 1. Season 8's "Idol" champ, Kris Allen, releases his major-label debut first, on November 17, while Danny Gokey, the only other "Idol" contestant with a record deal, will come out with an album of country-influenced tunes in 2010.

Allison Iraheta Previews Debuts Single "Friday I'll Be Over You"

While Kris Allen and Adam Lambert share the month of November (their debuts albums will be released on November 17 and 24, respectively), Allison Iraheta has December all to herself.

Fans of the popular American Idol singer should circle December 1 on their calendar, as Iraheta comes out with her first CD that day.

In a new interview, the rocker dishes on her debut single, "Friday I'll Be Over U," which you can listen to below.

On creating the song: I worked with Max Martin, and he pulled it out of his magic box. He came up with an awesome song and sent I to me and we cut it and it was just amazing. He definitely knows how to put himself in other people's shoes.

On her goal for the song: Pretty much show who I really am as an artist, and what I really want to continue doing for the rest of my life, which is this. Just really do awesome music for the rest of my life.

On her dream collaboration: I keep saying this, and I'm always going to say it until it happens... working with Pink, my friend. That would be amazing. Her music altogether inspires me. I look up to her.

Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta Close to Finishing Debut Albums

There's no rest for the signed on the American Idols Live! tour -- just ask runner-up Adam Lambert and fourth-place finisher Allison Iraheta, who are using any down time on the road to continue working on their debut albums, which are both due in November.

Lambert tells Billboard.com that his set is "about midway" to being finished. "We recorded a bunch of stuff before the tour started, and I wrote a handful of stuff," he reports. "We have three or four weeks after the tour ends that I have to record like crazy, but we have a lot of material to do that with."

Lambert says the album "has elements of rock, of course, but it has a lot of pop sensibilities to it. It's really current, really fresh and yet still melodically and vocally it's nodding to the '70s and '80s classics. I know I got most of my credibility on 'Idol' doing those songs from those eras, and it wouldn't make sense for me to do an album that runs away from it."

Among Lambert's collaborators so far have been RedOne, Linda Perry, Max Martin and Greg Wells. The album is so far unnamed -- "I want to see what ends up on the album before I come up with a title," he says -- and will likely be comprised of all-original songs, though he says that "there might be a cover on there. It's a maybe." Similarly, he has not yet recorded any duets but says "the jury's still out. It really could happen."

Iraheta, meanwhile, has been writing songs with Kevin Rudolf and David Hodges for her album, which she says will "definitely have that rock sound to it. It'll be fun, and there's gonna be some deep stuff, too -- like, lyrics about what can possibly be happening to other people in the world right now that I've gone through myself, but also melodically, just some good, slow rock ballads."

Iraheta says she's feeling "less pressure" than either Lambert or American Idol Season 8 "Idol" champion Kris Allen. "They're not in my face as much as they are in theirs," she notes. Lambert, meanwhile, acknowledges the weight of expectations.

"I do feel a little bit of pressure," he says. "There's a lot of hype. I've been fortunate enough to have a lot of attention, which is a great thing for somebody in my position, with an album coming out. I think people are going to like what they hear. I hope they do, at least."

Kris Allen said something album-related fell through so he actually had a few hours off. So his decision? Go see “The Hangover” at Phipps Plaza at 8 p.m. — by himself. Yes, the winner of “Idol” sat by himself in a dark theater alone, save for a few other souls who caught the film on a Thursday night. He said he went unrecognized as well.

“No one wanted to go with me,” he said. He said he had never seen a movie by himself. “If I want to go to movies, I want to go with friends,” he said.

So far, the album is going well. At least that’s what the honchos are telling him. “I don’t know,” he said. “I’ve never done this before. I keep asking, ‘Is everything going okay?’ They say, ‘Everything is going great.’ Okay, good!”

He said he was getting used to co-writing. His favorite person to co-write with? Guitarist Joe King of the Fray. “That was very very fun,” he said. “We spent two days in Virginia. I came to their show. He went to our show. ”

‘Idol’ chatter: Kris Allen talks up tour

No tabloid-ready rivalry, no behind-the-scenes sniping and recrimination, no senseless drama — in short, Season 8 of "American Idol” was nicer than nice. And this year’s champion, Kris Allen, couldn’t be happier.

"I think a lot of people have seen that, and that’s where I think this year was kind of cool: No one was just trying to go out there and beat the other person,” said Allen, who performs with his fellow finalists in "American Idols Live” at 7 tonight at Tulsa’s BOK Center. "They were just trying to do their best. If you won, you won, and if you didn’t, hopefully cool things would happen for you.”

For this year’s Top 10 finalists — Allen, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, Megan Joy, Michael Sarver and Scott MacIntyre — "American Idols Live” is the first of those cool things. The concert is a victory lap, a chance for the singers to connect directly with their fans and play favorite songs from the show.

American Idol is ready to hit the road! Season 8 winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert were on hand at a press day on Thursday to talk about the Idols Live Tour, which kicks off in Portland, Ore., on July 5, and will take the top 10 — which also includes Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, Megan Joy, Michael Sarver and Scott MacIntyre — to 50 cities in North America. Are you moving or planning on staying in Conway, Ark.?
My wife is going to move back home for the tour, so we still have to have a place to live, and still have our apartment. But things have changed completely. Four months ago, I could have never imagined ever doing anything like this. I don’t get much sleep now but there’s a lot of work to be done writing for the album and … rehearsals, as well. It’s nonstop but I’d rather be doing this than anything else.

How is the recording process coming along?
It feels great! It feels great to know that you’ve wanted to do this thing your whole life and to know that you have an album coming out in the fall that you’ve worked hard on that is you.

Kris Allen, Adam Lambert Reveal Plans Behind “American Idol” Tour

What can fans expect of Season Eight’s Top 10 on an arena stage? Adam Lambert promises a “post-apocalyptic-rocked-out-space-disco-funk” look to his ensemble, while Matt Giraud is gearing up for dance lessons courtesy of tour choreographer JaQuel Knight, who was the creative brain behind Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” video.

“To not have to worry about where the camera’s gonna be or where you’re standing is so liberating,” says Anoop Desai, who’ll be reprising “My Prerogative” as one of his show numbers. Allen is also adjusting to a new Idol world, and the idea of building his own set list. “People want to see you do songs from the show, but it’s nice to be able to throw in something that you want to do and really mold your time onstage,” he says.

Five American Idols open up about life on the road: Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Michael Sarver, and Scott MacIntyre

It's four hours to show time on Saturday and the Idols are wandering in and around the San Diego Sports Arena, killing time before the curtain rises on the 10th stop of their 50-city American Idol Live concert tour .

Kris Allen, dressed in what looks to be the same plaid shirt, black jeans and high-top sneakers he'll wear in concert that night, wanders into the arena from the direction of the nearby swap meet clutching a large soft-drink cup. A smiling Lil Rounds carefully pads around barefoot, cotton balls stuffed between her toes, so as not to smudge her fresh French pedicure. Michael Sarver, Danny Gokey and Matt Giraud cheerfully sign autographs and pose for photos for the crowd of 100 or so fans waiting patiently outside. And inside the arena, Adam Lambert's feet are hot, so before he sits down for an interview he pulls off his boots and socks (mischievously handing them to an amused crew member) and reveals 10 toenails painted with the same onyx polish that's on his fingernails.

Adam Lambert, Kris Allen Hit the Stage Again as American Idols Live Tour Kicks Off

In true Robert Plant style, Adam Lambert made his arrival known, punctuating his three-octave howl on “Whole Lotta Love” with pelvic thrusts and microphone straddling, then quickly switched gears for the haunting “Mad World,” showing off his crystalline falsetto against a moody backdrop of smoke and twinkling lights. After reprising “Slow Ride,” his energetic duet with “little sister” Allison Iraheta, Lambert closed his set with a medley of Bowie songs, then sunk down into the stage to the loudest cheers of the night.

Marked by explosive bursts of noise and color, the countdown culminated in Season Eight champion Kris Allen, who eschewed theatrics for a straightforward set of Idol favorites, from the soulful, percussive “Heartless” to his stirring piano-and-vocals interpretation of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.” Calling for a sea of cell phones and lighters, Allen finished his set with a plaintive rendition of “Hey Jude,” bringing the rest of the Idols back on stage to close out the show with Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”
